One Billion Rising draws it's name from the horrifying statistic that one in three women will be beaten or raped in her lifetime, a figure which equates to One Billion women across the planet. From their website:
"Every February, we rise – in countries across the world – to show our local communities and the world what one billion looks like and shine a light on the rampant impunity [for perpetrators] and injustice that survivors most often face. We rise through dance to express joy and community and celebrate the fact that we have not been defeated by this violence. We rise to show we are determined to create a new kind of consciousness – one where violence will be resisted until it is unthinkable."
One Billion Rising in Second Life has held events in support of this awareness-raising movement since 2013 and we will rise again this year on February 14, to the international theme of Artistic Uprisings. My name is Cherry Scribe, and as part of the supervising committee, I am honoured to have been asked to coordinate the DANCE region in 2022.
To that end, I am seeking professional dance teams in Second Life who would like to perform in an hour long time-slot on the One Billion Rising region during February 14. You will be given every assistance and support to present your performance from myself and the One Billion Rising team, and you will be performing on one of four regions which will also present music, drama, poetry and art through the 24 hour period.

Please note that there is no requirement to present performances "in theme" or related to gender-based violence. There are many ideas on the first and second life websites, but it is also an excellent opportunity for you to present your work to a highly engaged and receptive audience.
