Spirit Light Dance Company -- The Nutcracker Ballet
Ah, that special time of year is with us again. Yes, it’s time for the Nutcracker!! These performances will rank among the largest, most complex, and most captivating in the history of the SLDC, and perhaps Second Life in general. All of the richly detailed scenes and their lovable characters are present.
As the curtains open, the audience is brought into the sumptuous setting of a Victorian era party that sets the tone for all that follows. In succeeding dream sequences, we see 'The Nutcracker', mice and toy soldiers fight the good fight and an enchanting snow scene. Later, we enjoy a potpourri of international dance spectacles, from Russian to Spanish to Chinese; followed by a waltz of flowers, the hypnotic moves of a snake charmer, Mother Ginger’s groove and, of course, the dance of the sugar plum fairies. The Parade of Characters and the rousing finale rounds out a treat for the senses that will leave you thinking sugar-plum thoughts and humming Nutcracker tunes for days to come.
SLDC, one of the premier dance companies of Second Life, shows to both the virtual and actual worlds the beauty, finesse, and choreographic sophistication that is possible when dance traditions are wedded to (and enlivened by) virtual world technologies. The dances require a visceral understanding of dance as an artistic medium and an ability to translate this understanding to a world of imagination through pixels.
Led by Artistic Director Caryl Meredith, the SLDC team is composed of volunteers who doggedly dedicate hour after hour to designing sets, costumes, integrating choreography with virtual tools and Second Life technology. This culminates in a labor of love for the fans and audience of SLDC!

Join us at the Theater of Light at Rockcliffe University, 12:00 noon, on November 28, December 5 and December 12 to get your sugar plum fix, and to bring in the holiday season.
