Spirit Light Dance Company Presents " Smiles & Laughter"
Sunday April 11th
Sunday April 18th
All shows at 12:00 noon slt
Do you love to laugh? Ed Wynn, the lovable old roly-poly guy in Mary Poppins, dangled from the ceiling of his hut while singing “I love to laugh, loud and long and clear. I love to laugh; it’s getting worse every year.” Now it’s your turn, only without having to dangle from the ceiling. On April 11 and 18, the Spirit Light Dance Company (SLDC) will present performances of “Smiles and Laughter,” a special tribute to the power of laughter to overcome Covid anxiety and zoom fatigue.
The show begins with the best dancing frogs and flamingos in SL, and ends with a laugh-until-you-suffocate ballet of Sky Troopers. In between, you will find eleven other numbers featuring everything from dancing pigs to monkeys with attitudes. For those of you who laugh at dancing animals, this is the place to be. For the rest of you, there will be Dancing Queens and cute kids who will dance their way into your hearts, giving you that “aww . . . so sweet!” feeling.
SLDC choreographers were given free rein to compose their own dances. The only requirement was to make people smile. SLDC is one of the premier dance companies of Second Life, showing to both the virtual and actual worlds the beauty, finesse, and choreographic sophistication that is possible when dance traditions are wedded to (and enlivened by) virtual-world technical possibilities. The choreography requires a visceral understanding of dance as an artistic medium, and an ability to translate this understanding into a pixel experience. SLDC choreographers know how to do it.
If you love to laugh, it all happens at the Theater of Light at Rockcliffe University, April 11 and 18, 12:00 Noon SLT. Come early. Seats fill up fast. Both performances are free and open to the public, though donations are gratefully accepted. We will make sure that, if you love to laugh, loud and long and clear, you are not still dangling from the rafters when we leave for the day!
