It’s autumn in the Northern Hemisphere. The riot of colored leaves dropping to the ground signals a glorious “death” of the trees in the face of winter, only to be resurrected with the promise of another spring to come. We love walking through the orange, yellow, and red leaves, hearing them crunch under our feet. We enjoy the outdoors anywhere and anytime, but perhaps our delight is made special by a “Sunday in the Park” feeling—sitting on the grass, flying kites, watching the people as we pull our sweaters over our shoulders, feeling the last warm rays of the sun as they yield to the crisp chill of the approaching winter. But we also remember those special Sundays in the park during the springtime, the laid-back days of summer, and even the frigid afternoons of winter.
The Spirit Light Dance Company (SLDC) invites you to share through dance that special mood that comes from a Sunday in the Park.” You will be drawn into the mood through dances to “Sunday Feeling,” “My Life,” “Bright Side,” ”Take a Walk,” “Fly a Kite,” “Saturday in the Park,” “Jai Ho,” “Swing,” “No Good,” “Power of Love,” and finally, “Dancing in the Moonlight.” The site is like Chicago’s Washington Park, which was created in 1842 and to this day may be the home of lingering spirits from long ago.
Sunday in the Park is a show designed to highlight the gifts of SLDC’s growing cadre of choreographers, who crafted the dances in collaboration with the dancers and the technical staff. Through productions like this one, SLDC choreographers are given the opportunity to showcase their artistry before an audience. It is truly a home-grown production!
SLDC is a Second-Life dance company that brings together the artistic potential of virtual-world technology and the full range of choreographic styles. The result often leaves audience members with an irrepressible desire to tap their feet . . . and even get up and dance. All dances are live and driven in real time by the performers. The SLDC is a company comprised solely of volunteers, including the choreographers, the set designers, the back-office personnel and, of course, the dancers.
So, mark your calendars: November 2nd, and November 9th The venue is the Rockcliffe auditorium and the time is 12 noon SLT. Come prepared to be caught in the spell of a Sunday in the park, grass stains and an uncontrollable urge to smile included.
