THE SHOW
THE INTERVIEW
1. How and when did you find Second Life?
Just over ten years ago, I discovered My Second Life. Someone else told me about second life when I
was on another virtual website. I chose to stay when he took me over to have a
look around. Regretfully, he died a year
following our arrival.
2. How and when did you discover virtual dance?
The Roissyettes, a small dance company, sparked my passion
for dancing. Witnessing the immense possibilities that choreography offered, I
felt compelled to explore it myself. However, I had no idea at the time how
deeply I would become enthralled. Then, approximately two or three years ago, I
received an invitation to the Rising Stars Show, and from that point on, my
addiction to dance escalated to its current level.
3. I know picking is hard, but name a few of your
favorite dances that you have ever created:
There are so many, but I believe a few of my faves include
the opening dance sequence for Paris After Dark, Dan Vasc's Amazing Grace,
which I haven't performed yet, and Nina Simone's I Want A Little Sugar In My
Bowl. The Tango to the song Roxanne is another.
4. Did you have
any mentors when you were learning to dance that you'd like to wave to?
I am deeply grateful for the many individuals who have
provided unwavering support throughout my journey. Among them, Freyja holds a
special place in my heart as my very first teacher. I must confess that I
bombarded her with endless inquiries, driving her a bit crazy for months.
Another significant source of guidance came from ᴅᴇʟᴀɴᴇʏ ᴊᴇɴꜱᴏɴ, whom I had to
limit to just two questions per day. Lastly, I want to express my utmost
appreciation for Ciara, whose support was truly invaluable on my journey. I also
want to thank Sherry for giving me the opportunity to assist at Paris After
Dark Burlesque.
5. What is your favorite thing about virtual dance
creation?
The beauty of virtual dance lies in its limitless
possibilities. Your imagination knows no bounds, allowing you to bring any
vision or concept to life. You have the power to create a whole new universe
that captivates and entertains others. Through your art, you can invite them to
delve into the depths of your mind and join you on an extraordinary journey.
6. What is your least favorite thing about virtual
dance creation?
Movers.....nothing more needs to be said.
7. What advice would you give to someone who is new to
virtual dance?
Expand your mind and creativity by avoiding limitations. A
dance does not have to be overly complex. Sometimes, the most effective dance
communicates its message without excessive embellishments. Do not hesitate to
make mistakes. Lord, we have all committed sins. Do not hesitate to take risks
and try new things, even if they don't succeed. Until you attempt it, you will
remain unaware of your potential. The key is to constantly acquire new
knowledge and not get overly preoccupied with minor details as perfection is
unattainable. If it starts to feel like work, it's time for a break. It should
be fun and exciting and not feel like work.
8. If you have your own dance troupe, please tell a
little bit about it, and its history.
The **Paris After Dark Theatre** is a realm where vintage
glamour and Parisian burlesque converge, its red windmill a beacon in the
twilight. Inside, gold and crimson decor set the stage for dancers who embody
grace and seduction, their performances a tapestry of art and desire. An
eclectic audience, united by the spectacle, revels in the jazz-infused
ambiance, their collective experience weaving a narrative of bohemian
enchantment. Here, in this sanctuary for dreamers, every night unfurls as a
celebration of Paris's enduring romance and mystery. Since Paris After Dark's
debut performance in January 2024, I have overseen the group, even though I do
not own it. This is the sister troupe to 5th Avenue Guys and Dolls. From the
very beginning, I have watched it flourish, and over the past year, I have had
the pleasure of witnessing some of the top choreographers in the world grace
our stage.
9. What is your favorite food, favorite drink, and
please tell us about any pets that you have.
Well we have one dog.
His name is Bane. My nephew gave
him to us about 2 years ago. My sister's
husband is a collector of strays and well Bane likes to be the ONLY dog in the
house. So, now he is ours. I also call him Sir Pee's A Lot because
well.....you know. My favorite drink
depends on my mood and season. I love my
coffee....lord knows I can't survive without it. It is my lifeblood. I will have an energy drink sometimes....a
Bang Wild Cherry and Vanilla. Favorite
food is hard...but if I had to pick....give me a really good Mexican meal every
time.
10. What activities other than dance do you enjoy?
I believe it is an activity but I am a single mother of an
almost 13-year-old son. And currently, my life revolves around being the mom
taxi. I am constantly seeking the next significant dance opportunity. I am
always looking for my next important dance opportunity. I am constantly looking
for songs that resonate with me and compel me to create. I excel in cooking and
baking, with a preference for baking. During Christmas time, I tend to channel
my inner Martha Stewart.
11. Is there anything else you'd like to add?
I want to thank Madison, Resmay, Rain, Venus, Nancy, and
Kendra for dancing with me at PAD since I arrived. I apologize if I omitted
anyone. Chicago is a musician who incorporates distinctive elements into songs
to make them stand out. He is my top choice for voice-over services. He taught
me how to use music manipulation programs effectively, helping me become more
independent. I am thankful to Sherry for the opportunity I was given at Paris
After Dark. Babypea, I learned something new from every class you taught. My
family - Master Mal, Rain, Bre, and Kim - has tolerated my dance schedule for a
long time and has even joined me on the stage. There is a lot more up in my
head...creativity just never stops.
