It is the depth of winter in the Northern Hemisphere.  Many of us experience cold, snow, and the drudgery of getting around.  The fiery colors of autumn become a monochrome defined by endless nights, gray overcast, and long shadows that are occasionally punctuated by the bright sheen of fresh snow.  How do you feel during the season of monochrome?  Depressed?  Excited? Tranquil?  How do winter colors make you feel?

The Spirit Light Dance Company (SLDC) invites you to experience the feelings of color in its appropriately titled presentation, “Colors,” on February 12, 19, and 26.   When you see shades of blue, do you have feelings of peace, tranquility, animation, depression?  What about shades of red?  Anger? Aggression? Hostility? Passion? Motivation?  How do you respond to colors in an abstract painting, or the throbbing intensity of disco lights?

These questions were given to the choreographers of SLDC’s “Colors” show with the instruction to engage and express the emotions that come from color in their dances—interpretations of emotions that are conveyed by movement, transitions, and staging.  Each act is like a glistening jewel, reflecting the multiple facets of emotion in movement and design.  These jewels go by names that include “Velvet Tear,” “Happy,” “Dancing Ants,” “Fairy,” “All by Myself,” “Piano Man,” “Goddess & Guardian,” “Shades,” “Age of Heroes,” “Vertigo,” “When It Rains,” and “Little Stars.”

SLDC is a company that prides itself in its innovative melding of virtual environments, and traditional and modern dance techniques.  There is nothing “automatic” in their performances.  All dances are live and driven in real time by the performers.  The result is an uplifting experience for audience members that transcends time and place.
Here is your opportunity.

Turn the season of monochrome into a color palette as the dancers of SLDC treat you to a sensory feast of colors and their emotions.  You cannot help but leave invigorated!  Mark your calendars:  February 12, 19, 26, Rockcliffe University auditorium, 12 noon SLT.  Come early.  Seats go quickly.
