Happy New Year!!! The confetti is swept up, the hangovers have been vanquished, and the resolutions tossed out for noncompliance . . . yet again!!! Now it is time for some dancing!!
The Spirit Light Dance Company (SLDC) will help you greet the new year with a performance entitled “Quatrain” (no, this does not mean monorail four times over!). The Quatrain features four sets of very different dance themes. The first theme looks at “Synergy” through the lenses of "Fairyland, " “Darkness,” “Humanity,” and “Resolution.” The second theme provides a lively look at “Sabor Latino” (Latin flavor) with toe-tapping excursions into “Tangerine,” “Liar,” and “African Bamba.” The third theme takes us down memory lane with a tribute to “Gershwin” and his excitement for “Rhythm,” “Paris,” and “Rhapsody.” Finally, in the fourth theme we peer into our electronic futures with “Laser,” “Robotica,” and “Laser Harp.”
We are excited about this performance, like all of our performances, but this time our merriment is dampened by sadness. SLDC recently lost a true friend, Dni Starlight, after a prolonged illness. She represented everything that SLDC is about: passionate choreographer and dancer, general girl Friday who was always around to help with whatever needed to be done, and member of the administrative committee. Oh yes, and we cannot forget that she was the “Fog Lady” who managed the veil of mist between scenes. More than anything, she was a genuinely nice person who was with Caryl from the beginning and would have remained a valued friend of the Company until the end had her life not been cut short. So, with broken hearts and tearful eyes, yet comforted by beautiful memories, the members of SLDC lovingly dedicate the performance of The Quatrain to Dni.
At the beginning of each performance, SLDC will dance one of Dni’s favorites, the “Memorial Angel Dance—The Prayer,” in celebration of her life. Please join us on February 11, 17, and 18, at noon SLT in the Rockcliffe University auditorium. Come early! Let yourself go as we celebrate the new year!
